Why Hygg-Ed
Hygge LED Sign.JPG
More Than A Word
The word hygge may come from Denmark, but the feeling it describes

exists all over the world.

In Wales, it might be called cwtch — that deep sense of comfort,

belonging and feeling safe.

In Japan, ikigai reflects living with purpose and meaning.

Across cultures, we find different words for the same human needs:

To belong,
To connect,
To feel calm,
To restore.

While the name Hygg-Ed was inspired by the Danish word 'hygge', the values behind it are universal. Hygg-Ed brings these timeless values together in a way that feels authentic to the people and communities we support.

The name 'Hygg-Ed' simply brings together two ideas that sit at the heart of everything we do.

Hygge (pronounced "who-ga") is a Danish word often associated with comfort, connection, belonging, wellbeing & nature.

"Ed" is from Education - reflecting over 25yrs experience in teaching, pastoral work & leadershop.

Together they make 'Hygg-Ed'.

Hygg-Ed reaches far beyond the walls of conventional education and strives to help women, children, schools & communities to create a culture of calm through restorative conversations, experiences and

nature-based practice.

Hygge can be found in:

A calm classroom

Reflective leadership

A shared family moment

Time in nature

Meaningful conversation

A warming beverage at the end of a long & tiring day

A Universal
Language

Restoration begins with a pause
