Sometimes, moving forward begins when we accept a chapter has ended.
Today marks the end of a chapter.
It hasn't been an era, but it has been a chapter. There have been ups and downs and many challenges along the way and, ultimately, I am pleased that this particular chapter has come to an end. Yet despite looking forward to what lies ahead, there is still a feeling of sadness and grief.
When I stop to reflect, I realise that although I am ready to close the door on this chapter, I am grieving for what could have been. The promise of opportunity and progression met with fixed ideas and very little freedom. Hope and optimism were turned on their head.
Yet from a place of despair came clarity and calm.
I was able to truly consider what it was that I needed and wanted and, over time, I have been able to find the light again and move forward in a direction that feels more aligned with who I am and who I want to become.
Good or bad, every experience shapes us into the people we become.
As we get older, our priorities can change and what we were once looking for no longer aligns with our current needs. That can create enormous juxtaposition within our psyche and our wellbeing, but through a calm and considered approach, we can often find ourselves in a stronger and brighter position than before.
If you find yourself navigating change, grief or transition, don't be afraid to sit with the uncomfortable feelings for a while. Acknowledge them. Break them down into manageable pieces. Little by little, you may find your way through to a calmer way of being.
Wishing you all a calm & gentle Hygge Friday.
