The Science of Sound
The science of sound.png

Even before we understand the meaning of words, we respond to tone, rhythm and melody.

For thousands of years, sound has been used to communicate, celebrate, heal and connect.

Today, science is beginning to explain what many cultures have always known -

Sound has the ability to influence the way we think, feel and respond to the world around us.

The Healing Power of Sound invites you to slow down, listen deeply and experience the restorative effect that sound can have on the mind, body and soul.

We are all individual and experiences differ from person to person, but throughout time, music and sound have proven to enhance wellbeing.

Listening to music and singing is known to release dopamine into the brain,

our natural 'feel-good' chemical, helping to

• reduce stress

• support relaxation

• encourage slower breathing

• lower heart rate

• improve mood

• support emotional regulation

• encourage mindfulness

• create opportunities for rest

Although no single approach is right for everyone, many people describe leaving

sound experiences feeling calmer, lighter and more grounded.

What to expect
What to expect icon_edited.png

Every experience is thoughtfully designed to create a calm, welcoming and restorative environment. There is no expectation to perform, participate in a particular way or to have any previous experience.

After a gentle introduction, you'll be invited to settle into a comfortable position, either seated or lying down, before being immersed in a carefully curated sound journey.

Sessions may include crystal singing bowls, chimes, gentle percussion, mindful listening, breath awareness and moments of peaceful silence.

No musical ability is required, and you don't need to understand the instruments or techniques being used.

Simply come as you are, relax and allow yourself the opportunity to pause, breathe and calm.

Why this matters to me
Why sound matters to me icon_edited.png

Music has always been a part of my life.

For more than two decades I taught music across primary and secondary education, worked with choirs and ensembles, taught singing, prepared students for performances and examinations, and watched countless young people discover confidence through finding their own voice.

Children who struggled to communicate found confidence through singing.

Students carrying anxiety became calmer through making music together.

Communities were strengthened through shared performance.

Music is so much more than a subject on a curriculum. It is

a way of connecting people.

Today, The Healing Power of Sound brings together my background in music education with restorative wellbeing practices, creating experiences that are gentle,

welcoming and deeply human.
