Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing).
Slow down. Breathe deeply. Reconnect with the quiet wisdom of the woodland.
Discover how spending mindful time amongst the trees can help restore calm, reduce stress and gently reconnect you with yourself and the natural world.
The Healing Power of Woodland

It might seem surprising that something as simple as spending time amongst the trees can have such a positive effect on our wellbeing, but a growing body of research suggests that nature really can help us feel calmer—and I certainly don't need convincing.
Studies have found that spending mindful time in woodland environments may help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve mood and support the body's natural relaxation response. Researchers believe that slowing our pace, breathing fresh air, engaging our senses and stepping away from the constant stimulation of modern life all play an important role in helping us reset.
Perhaps that's why so many of us instinctively say we feel so much fresher after a walk in the woods.
For me, however, the greatest healing isn't something that can be measured. It's perspective.
The woodland reminds us that nothing in nature rushes, yet everything grows. There are no deadlines, no expectations and no pressure to be anything other than yourself.
Sylvotherapy isn't all about hugging trees! Although, placing a hand on a tree that has quietly stood witness to hundreds of years of history has a remarkable way of soothing the soul.
You're free to be still amongst the trees, wander beneath the canopy, pause to admire them or,
if you really want to, give one a hug.
Whatever helps you feel restored, I'll gently support you in finding your own way.
What to expect
The restorative principles of Sylvotherapy are thoughtfully woven into 1:1 coaching, small group experiences, workshops, restorative escapes and community sessions, wherever they feel most beneficial.
Depending on your needs, we may spend time walking slowly through the woodland, pausing to notice the changing seasons, engaging the senses, sharing quiet conversation or simply allowing nature to create the space for reflection.
There is no pressure to meditate, no need to know anything about trees and certainly no expectation to hug one! Simply come as you are, wear comfortable clothing and allow yourself the opportunity to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with the natural world.
Every experience is as unique as the people taking part, gently shaped around your individual needs, the season and the landscape around us.

Why this matters to me
My love of the natural world didn't begin with Forest School training. It began in childhood.
Some of my happiest memories are of walking with my Grampy through the countryside, learning the names of trees, noticing the changing seasons and discovering that every woodland has its own quiet personality. Those walks taught me to look more closely, to be curious and to appreciate the beauty in the smallest details.
Growing up with deep country roots, nature was never somewhere we visited. It was simply part of life. Looking back, I realise those experiences shaped far more than my childhood —
they shaped who I am.
Although I've been fortunate enough to live and work in different parts of the world, returning to the UK has always felt like coming home. Not simply because of a house or a place on a map, but because of the landscape itself. The woodlands, rivers, hills and changing seasons have always given me a sense of belonging that I find difficult to put into words.
Later, qualifying as a Forest School Leader gave me the opportunity to understand more deeply what I'd instinctively felt all my life. I discovered not only the educational value of learning outdoors, but also the profound effect nature can have on our
wellbeing, confidence and sense of connection.
For me, Sylvotherapy is more than a restorative practice.
It's a way of returning to something wonderfully familiar -
The quiet energy of the woodland.
Fresh air, open skies and ancient trees.
The raw beauty of the natural world.
And perhaps, in many ways, to ourselves.
